I thought you were gay. 

I assume this is someone who knew me in high school? Well, either way, I’ll present this as a way for you (and others) to hopefully learn.

Yes, when I was in high school, I did identify as lesbian. However, for most people, sexuality is fluid, and at different points in their life can be more rigid or loose in how they choose to identify. Currently, I identify as queer. That can mean something different for everyone who chooses to identify this way. For myself, what it means is that I mostly like female-identified people, meaning cisgendered and transgendered women, but I am also open to other people who fit under the queer umbrella (transgendered men, genderqueer people, etc). It is unlikely I would enter into a relationship with a cisgendered man, but it is a possibility. Even though I am in a “straight” relationship currently, both Thomas and I fall under the queer umbrella, and consider our relationship to be a queer one. Hopefully this answers some questions for you?
